Date: October 7th, 2006
The best and biggest chili cookoff ever held! Another great event was held in 2005. We had a
record number of 26 local cooks and 19 cooks for the
CASI chili. Along with the usual annual competition
between local restaurants and amateurs for the best chili, we
held the our second Chili
Appreciation Society International event (CASI).
This is the only cookoff of this type
in South Carolina.
We estimate there were 1,300 people who
enjoyed this fall Saturday afternoon. All the money raised
will go toward our Kiwanis charities. CASI Winners were awarded points and could possibly
compete in the international chili cookoff in 2007.

rules Honey Horn is still a great location for
our events and is located on the North end of the island where
the Cross Island Parkway meets William Hilton Parkway. Click

One ticket allows you to eat as much chili as you like.
Beverages are extra. Anti-acids are provided by Burkes
Pharmacy. Advanced tickets are
$10.00 and available through any Kiwanis
member, Burke's Pharmacy, The Coastal Discovery Museum,
The Internet Cafe in Coligny Plaza
or any location of NBSC or Wachovia bank. Tickets are also available at
the door for $12.00. "Low Country Boil" will
provide musical entertainment. Other events planned include
the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Indent-a-kid trailer,
the fire department and other local charitable organizations.
People ate as much chili as they could, what chili that was
left over was donated to Second Helpings Food Bank. Last
year we donated about
150 pounds of chili. This year, people were hungry and we
donated 40 pounds of chili. Thanks to our cooks,
needy people had a great meal.
We also thank our corporate sponsors for their generosity.

Corporate Sponsors. There are two types of
judging for the local competition. First, the general public is allowed
to vote for the best chili in both professional and
amateur categories. A group of honorable judges
determine the best chili. For the CASI
competition, judges use a determined set of criteria to
decide the best chili. The judging. is so blind that not until
the judging is complete, do we know who has the best chili.
