The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head has presented Nicholas Peter Nartowicz of Hilton Head High a $500 book scholarship to be used toward the purchase of books and supplies during his freshman year at college. Janet Stupica made the presentation at the school's annual awards program May 15.

Kiwanis sponsors Key Clubs in high schools to encourage community service by students and help them develop leadership skills. Each year a member of the High School Key Club's graduating class is recognized for excellence in academic endeavors, participation in extracurricular activities, and a sense of community. All members of the Key Club were congratulated for their work on various community projects.

Nicholas has a 4.89 grade point average and is involved in a number of activities, including Key Club Treasurer, National Honor Society, and President of the Spanish Honor Society. The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head presented a check for $5000 to The Children’s Center, Inc., as part of the Club’s ongoing support to local children’s charities. The funds for this donation were raised through Kiwanis’ sponsorship of two recent events on Hilton Head: Peanut Day and the Chili Cook-Off.
The Children’s Center provides educational and childcare services for low-income parents who would otherwise be unable to afford such care. The Center currently serves approximately 270 children in its Hilton Head and Bluffton locations.
